Junior 5-6

  • Games begin at 6:00pm with no inning beginning after 8:05pm according to the umpire's watch.  A team must have 5 players ready to play by 6:15 or forfeit the game. Late players may be inserted into the line-up at the bottom of the order.

  • Games are 6 innings and all players must play a minimum of 3 innings in the field.

  • All games will be played according to the League's schedule.  Managers are not permitted to change the date of a game without Board approval.  Rain outs will be determined by the Board or its designated representative.

  • The League will follow a fixed schedule.  That is,  if a game is canceled it will be played at the end of the season if time permits.  The team with the best record at the end of the season will be the League champion.  In the event of a tie the champion will be determined based on their head-to-head record.

  • No player will be allowed to play without a team shirt.  No jewelry shall be worn.

  • Managers will require all  players to place their names on any equipment ( particularly gloves and bats ) that they may bring to a game.

  • Once the rosters are established, no new players may enter the league without  the permission of the Board.

  • The distance from home plate to the mound is 35 feet.  Base paths are 60 feet.  The HOME team is responsible for measuring and setting up the bases.

  • Only 9 players are allowed on the field. Fielders consist of 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, C, P, and 3 outfielders.

  • A pitcher is allowed to pitch a maximum of 4 innings/game and a total of 7 innings in the last 7 days.  * If a player pitches for another softball team or league, she  may not  pitch in the recreational league.

  • A pitcher may be  inserted once into the game.  Other players, including a pitcher playing another position, may be inserted into the game as often as the manager wishes.

  • Fast pitch rules will apply except that the pitcher may start with one foot on the rubber. Windmill is permitted, but not a “side-way” delivery.  There is no “dropped third strike” rule.

  • Batting helmets must be worn at all times when batter is on-deck, at bat, or on base.

  • All players will be included in the batting order whether or not they are playing in the field.

  • If,  in the opinion of the umpire, a batter throws the bat, she will be served a warning. If a second instance occurs during the game, she will be called out.

  • Stealing is not allowed.

  • Bunting is not allowed.

  • The infield fly rule will not be used.

  • A runner may not leave the base until the ball has left the pitcher's hand.  If, in the opinion of the umpire she leaves early, she will be called out.

  • If a ball is overthrown ( past the backstop or wing lines ), a runner is awarded 1 base.

  • An inning will be over with 3 outs or  5 runs.  The  “five run rule” is in effect  until the last inning of a game.  During the last inning, play will continue until completed even if more than six runs score.

  • If a manager does not agree with an umpire's call, he or she shall request time out and permission from the umpire to come on the field to discuss a rule interpretation.  Only rule interpretation calls may be questioned, not judgment calls by the umpire.  Managers are requested to also speak with parents about this rule and about good sportsmanship.
